Album Summary
Wild is Youtuber Troye Sivan’s second album release and includes six electropop songs. According to the blog IPHYB, the album “Has so far caught the attention of many, from fangirls to fellow artists such as Taylor Swift and Sam Smith” (iprobablyhateyourband.com/). The album has been hitting the top of the charts and has been garnering a ton of play on radio stations across the world. The album includes “Erratic percussion elevating the chorus to epic indie-pop, sing-a-long territory whilst Bite allows Troye’s preternatural lyrical ability (for someone his age anyway) to take the fore under a relaxed, stretched out electronic refrain amid injections of sparkling synths” (musicfeeds.com). Sivan’s album is relaxing mix of sounds that millennial listeners can easily relate to and find meaning in the lyrics.
Critical Evaluation
I read on the blog IPHYB that if you like Sigor Ros you will like this album and I completely agree. The songs are hauntingly beautiful and emotionally moving. Sivan sings about life, love, loss, family, friends, and anything you can think of for a coming of age soundtrack. The music is calming, but at the same makes you want to get up and move. His style of music is called electropop or dream pop and it is because you feel a sense of ease while listening to the songs. The songs range from instrumentals to lightly synthesized vocals. The album has been getting praise across music blogs for incorporating a 80s vibe but with a new feel for the millennial listener. I would describe the album as a sounds track to growing up in the 21st century.
Reader’s Annotation
Electropop beats and lyrics that are perfect for that summer night party by the lake or for driving around in your car with friends.
