Critical Evaluation

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an action and adventure role-playing game were players travel the fictional kingdom of Hyrule as Link. Players are tasked with time sensitive quests were they can solve riddles, puzzles, and tasks for rewards in the game. The game is called Ocarina of Time because Link is given an Ocarina by the Princess Zelda at the start of the game. Throughout the game Link must learn 12 different songs on the Ocarina in order to teleport to different areas of the game. This original version of the game was released in 1998 and is considered to be one of the best Zelda games out there. The game has recently been released on the Nintendo handheld gaming devise called 3DS. IGN a reputable gaming review website raves about the games, graphics, storyline, and soundtrack. They write, “Ocarina of Time is easily the best in the series. Sure, the game has a couple of little flaws (the annoying Navi "hey" messages, for example) -- but unlike the hundreds and hundreds of uninspired gaming sequels that find their way into console and PC owners' homes every year, Ocarina of Time takes some basic game play and story ideas from its predecessors and rolls them into a completely unique experience” (http://www.ign.com/).

Developer Information

The following information was taken from http://www.nintendo.com/corp/history.jsp.

“Nintendo Entertainment System: Introduced in 1985, the NES was an instant hit. Over the course of the next two years, it almost single-handedly revitalized the video game industry. Selling over 60 million units, people brought games like Mario and Zelda into their homes for the first time on the NES.

The screen was four-colors-of-gray but the device defined portable gaming and was enormous fun. Game Boy, which came out in 1989, was closely associated with the classic game Tetris when it debuted. Game Boy is the most successful video game system ever released. Since its introduction in 1989, Game Boy has sold well over 150 million systems worldwide. Originally bundled with the game, Tetris, this little handheld became an instant phenomenon."
